Sometimes Justice takes a different path

For a hard-charging detective in the Pandering Investigative Team (PIT), deliverance comes in the manner of long prison sentences, humiliation, and bankruptcy for the animals who subjugate, beat, and torture women into selling their bodies, while reaping all the financial rewards. With that single-minded goal, Las Vegas detective Chris Baughman finds frustration and dead ends as he and his team work countless hours hunting down someone from his past – Mario Davis, a promising athlete whose bright future took a sadistic U-turn. Helping him are two young women from Davis’ stable of ten, who reach out to Chris for rescue after Mario beats them into an unrecognizable pulp. Chris picks up the chase to find and finish Mario off for good.

But justice wears many faces, and Chris fears the case is slipping through his fingers when the two women fear testifying against him. After everything they’ve survived, there is still a shred of loyalty. No matter how frustrated Chris is, he knows he can’t ask them to put their lives at further risk. Through countless hours and too many sleepless nights, he fears that all he’ll have is the bitter taste of an excruciating conclusion that will offer no justice for the victims. The tough lesson Chris must face is that his job sometimes offers a different kind of redemption.

Reviews and Accolades

Las Vegas Detective, Chris Baughman, and his P.I.T. – Pandering Investigation Team – colleagues are literally operating at Ground Zero for sex trafficking in this country. Chris confronts the lie that prostitution is a “victimless crime” in his book, REDEMPTION. He writes with passion, extraordinary insight and an authenticity that is second to none.

I have seen Chris working his cases, met the victims he has saved and observed the love he feels for his city, his colleagues, and his family. Chris is becoming an important voice in the fight to end sex slavery in the United States. Anyone who cares about human rights and helping victims of human trafficking should read this extremely personal book

~ Jane Wells, Producer/Director TRICKED, The Documentary, Founder of 3 Generations

Christopher Baughman has that rarest quality among authors: a truly original voice. OFF THE STREET is like no other book I've ever read. Coming across as a real-life, crime-fighting, near evangelical super-hero on steroids, Baughman takes us with him every step of the way as he builds an impregnable case to take down a vicious Vegas pimp, but it's his commitment to the life he's chosen, and to the fascinating anomaly he has become as a cop, that renders this book unforgettable. I couldn't put it down, and neither will you.
~John Lescroart, New York Times Bestseller author of the Dismas Hardy novels and The Hunt Club

Baughman serves up an action-packed ride into the dark underbelly of the sex industry. Off the Streets is an inspired page turner about one undercover detective's fight against the pimps and bad guys--who are prostituting women and girls into human trafficking.
~Aaron Cohen, author of Slave Hunter

A disconcerting and unique look into the dark side of human behavior. The traumatic bond that pimps hold over their victims is equally powerful and infinitely more violent. Det. Baughman has captured the dynamics of these hidden relationships in a graphic but eloquent manner. As a professor of forensic psychology, I am recommending this book to anyone who wants to understand more about this criminal underworld.

About the Author

Christopher M. Baughman is the host of MSNBC Slave Hunter. His meteoric rise in the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police working in the Gang Crimes Section and distinguished himself by solving in four days the national high profile case, "The School Bus Shooting," where six kids were shot while exiting a school bus.

Chris was recruited to Vice Crimes, where he changed the culture and scope of the crimes they investigated, which led to a team built around him, the Pandering Investigation Team (P.I.T.) and Human Trafficking Task Force, where Chris’ team arrested and convicted several of the wealthiest and most violent criminals in the city in less than a year.

This success of this team caught the attention of investigative reporter Chris Hansen of NBC Dateline Undercover "To Catch a Predator."

Christopher has served as reference expert for the television show CSI: Las Vegas, specifically for the ground breaking crossover episode CSI: Trilogy. Christopher teaches the anatomy of pandering investigations to other departments across the nation, including members of the FBI, IRS Agents, Federal Parole and Probation.
